The man who climbed atop a fence along an I-285 overpass during the height of Thursday's morning commute, forcing authorities to shut down the interstate, will not face charges, according to East Point police.
The man, who was in his 20s, "was distraught over some things going on in his life," East Point police Lt. Cliff Chandler told the AJC. Chandler said the man, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
All lanes of the interstate in both directions were closed at Washington Road at 8:15 a.m. Thursday morning. The man was sitting atop the tall fence on the overpass.
Police talked the man down, and the interstate and Washington Road were reopened shortly before 9 a.m.
Return for updates.
