Police say a 19-year-old Columbus man was jailed after he accidentally shot a 14-year-old boy in the chest.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported  that Quintavious Garner was booked into the Muscogee County Jail on charges of reckless conduct and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime after shooting the boy.

Police declined to identify the victim's name. He was in critical condition but expected to recover from his injuries.

The shooting happened late Friday night. Authorities were initially called to investigate a drive-by shooting but Lt. John McMichael of the Columbus Police Department said police later discovered Garner shot the teen while "playing around" with the gun.
