The 17-year-old man accused of stealing a car with a baby inside will have his first court appearance Saturday morning.

Robert Jones, who also goes by Kayron Jackson, was arrested following the Thursday morning incident thanks to a quick-acting security guard, police said. The baby was found safe.

The 8-month-old boy was sleeping in the backseat when his mother stopped at the BP at 3843 Jonesboro Road about 8:30 a.m. When she went inside to pay for gas, she left the keys in the  car. The suspect got in and drove away, police said.

BP security guard Triquantis Isom reacted quickly.

"Mr. Isom followed the vehicle into Clayton County, blocked its path and exited his vehicle and held the suspect until Clayton PD arrived," said Officer James Polite, an Atlanta police spokesman.

Mother and son were reunited soon thereafter.

Jones was charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, theft by taking, driving without a license and giving a false name. He is being held at the Fulton County Jail.

Jones is scheduled to appear in Magistrate Court at 11 a.m. Saturday.
