A 48-year-old Cobb County man is accused of beating his elderly wife and then preventing her from seeking help for two days.
Carl Anthony Scott allegedly grabbed 70-year-old Nancy Appleby by her clothes and swung her around the room before punching her several times in the face, causing her to sustain a brain hemorrhage, according to arrest warrants obtained by the AJC.
Then, Scott allegedly refused to let Appleby leave the Marietta motel where the two were staying, police said. And he denied her access to a telephone, according to the warrant.
Once she was able to call for help, Appleby spent three days at WellStar Cobb Hospital before being transported to Atlanta Medical Center on April 2 for further treatment, police said.
Scott, who also goes by the name Anthony Jones, was arrested March 29, according to jail records. His charges were upgraded after detectives were informed of the extent of Appleby's injuries, Sgt. Dana Pierce told the AJC. Scott's driver's license lists his name as "Carl Anthony Scott." But he was booked into the Cobb County jail under the name Anthony Jones.
The suspect has a criminal history under both names, Pierce said.
Scott faces numerous charges in the alleged attack, including aggravated assault, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, 911 obstruction and cruelty to the elderly, according to jail records. He is being held on $75,000 bond.
