Nearly three years ago, Cori Williams stopped two men walking in Atlanta's Little 5 Points and asked to borrow a lighter. One of them handed Williams the lighter.

But when Eric Stalker asked for the lighter back, Williams pulled out a gun and demanded cash, according to the Fulton County District Attorney. Stalker's friend, 47-year-old Terry Williams, tried to intervene and was shot in the head by Cori Williams.

Terry Williams was transported to Grady Hospital, where he died eight days later.

As jury deliberations in the murder trial began Thursday, 22-year-old Cori Williams pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the 2007 shooting death, according to Yvette Brown, spokeswoman for the DA's office.

The only witness to the crime, Stalker, was unable to positively identify Cori Williams as the shooter, meaning the charges were reduced, Brown said.

Judge Mike Stoddard sentenced Cori Williams to 20 years in prison, to serve 14.
