The Lawrenceville City Council voted Monday to proceed with engineering and permitting to improve gas pressure to the city. The permitting work is necessary prior to the design and construction of the proposed 12-inch, high-pressure line from the delivery point on Highway 81 in Walnut Grove to the regulator station on Hoke O’Kelley Road. The council approved low bidder Precision Planning to perform engineering, surveying, environmental, and permitting for the improvement at $201,525.00.

In addition, council approved $375,000 to replace 9,000 residential gas regulators. City employees will provide much of the work, with the remaining provided by low bidder Southern Cross. The department anticipates 9,000 regulators need to be completely replaced, approximately 1,000 orifices need to be changed in other regulators, and approximately 6,000 meter sets need to be painted while the contractor is there.
