The Lawrenceville city council agreed recently to a change to the contract with Jacobs Engineering Group to coordinate utility improvement projects in the Georgia Gwinnett College corridor.

According to city officials, the GGC Corridor utility system is complicated by three projects designed by two entities. New construction designed by Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. ends at the intersection of North Clayton Street and Maddox Street.

At that point, plans prepared by the city engineer continue to North Clayton Street and Born Street, and includes Depot Street, Born Street and North Perry Street to Oak Street. At North Clayton Street and Born Street, Jacobs Engineering Group’s work picks up again and continues to Pike Street.

New construction begins on Collins Hill Road at the entrance to Walmart and proceeds south crossing Hurricane Shoals Road. In addition to gas, sewer and fiber lines, Gwinnett has three water lines and the city has two at this crossing.

Coordinating the relocation of electric, telephone, cable, fiber and the poles they hang on will be critical.

The change order will add $67,686 to the GGC corridor budget.
