If you find yourself tipsy at a Krystal and everything looks different from how you remember, it isn’t you — it really does look different.
At least it will from March 30 onward.
That’s when the Krystal reveals the company-wide design at a Marietta location. Eventually, that’s what all its stores will look like.
The eatery, located at 271 Cobb Parkway S., will have a “retro diner feel modernized,” said Jason Abelkop, chief marketing officer for Krystal.
When it opens after being shut down some 80 days, it’ll re-emerge with Krystal’s first lineup of ice cream, milkshakes and sundaes.

Abelkop said the Cobb County location was chosen, in part, because its the closest to the Braves' new SunTrust Park.
“We really like what’s going on in the Marietta area with the ballpark,” he said. “We know there’s going to be lots of people from Atlanta and the Southeast coming through ... so we wanted to take the advantage of that.”

But there were other reasons.
“We wanted it in our hometown,” said Abelkop, based in the Dunwoody Krystal headquarters. “Demographically it’s a good spot for us.”
Aside from the “retro diner feel modernized" with stone and wood, he said, the late-night go-to will have a clock tower as “an homage to something that’s always been in our restaurant and a connection to what the brand is today ... with lots of 24-hour operations.”
A month after the store opens, there’ll be a two-day grand opening celebration. The first 50 people in line will get free Krystal for a month and one person will have the honor of a year’s worth of Krystal bestowed upon them.
That square burger superfan will also be able to try out the new frosty menu options.
Abelkop said the company tested the cold and sweet treats in Macon and found they were so successful they incorporated them into the roll-out of the new designs.
