Counselors were made available to Harrison High School students one day after a senior classmate was seriously injured in a bout of horseplay.
Cobb County police said Justin Harding, 18, fell from the trunk of a moving car and hit his head on the pavement about 11:25 p.m. Sunday.
The Kennesaw teenager was leaving a home on Stone Lakes Drive when he hopped onto a moving 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, Cobb police said.
Harding was flown by air ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment late Sunday, police said. A hospital spokeswoman did not have information on Harding's condition.
John Stafford, an assistant principal at Harrison, described Harding as a good student who is a positive influence in the classroom.
"He has a great sense of humor, always has a smile on his face and is well liked by peers and adults alike," Stafford said in an e-mailed statement from the Cobb schools communications office.
His friends have rallied around the family in support, Stafford said.
"Our thoughts are with Justin and his family and our hope is for a full recovery," Stafford said.
Harrison's graduation ceremonies are scheduled for May 23.
The driver of the car was not charged, police said.
