Johns Creek will hold a citizens police academy starting March 16.
The nine-week course provides an in-depth look at police department operations. The academy meets every Tuesday night and includes classroom instruction on criminal investigations, internal affairs, narcotics, crime scene investigation and community services; demonstrations on K-9, SWAT and use of force and practical exercises in traffic enforcement and firearms.
The citizens police academy is open to all Johns Creek residents 21 and older who successfully pass the application process and a criminal history check. Attendance is limited to 25 people.
To apply, download an application at the city Web page, www.johnscreekga.gov, or pick one up at the police department headquarters at 11445 Johns Creek Parkway. Applications must be submitted by March 4. If accepted, there is a $25 fee.
