The Johns Creek City Council has renewed an agreement with Alpharetta to allow residents of the two cities to enroll in certain youth sports programs at each others’ parks at in-town rates.

The “Parks Without Borders” program waives non-residents fees for three youth recreational sports programs –baseball, lacrosse and girls softball, Recreation Manager Kirk Franz said in an agenda report to the council.

The program began with youth girls softball in 2015 and was expanded in 2016 to baseball and lacrosse, Franz said. Fees otherwise would be 50 to 75 percent higher under non-resident rates.

“As a result of the (memorandum of understanding), Johns Creek has become the main provider for youth lacrosse, and Alpharetta has become the main provider for youth girls softball,” Franz said. “Both city athletic associations, Newtown Recreation and Ocee Park Athletic Association, are in favor of continuing the MOU with Alpharetta.”

The present memorandum expires before next spring’s season. The new agreement covers the 2019 an 2020 spring and fall sports seasons.
