Johns Creek announced what it said is the first of its kind in a city park in the southeastern U.S.: Three new cricket batting cages.

The cages are at the northern end of Field Two at Shakerag Park, 10945 Rogers Circle. The Johns Creek Recreation & Parks Division worked with members of the Recreation & Parks Advisory Committee on the installation.

The cricket batting cages are available during normal park hours on a first-come, first-served basis, officials said.

In a 2015 AJC article on the growing popularity of cricket in the Atlanta area, Kirk Franz, recreation manager for Johns Creek, said, "It's important to see the shift, to not ignore the segment of the population that wants to do other things. … I've been telling people here that cricket's coming. It's even on ESPN, they're showing highlights."
