April 9, 2012The Georgia First Amendment Foundation will award U.S. Rep. John Lewis with the 2012 Charles L. Weltner Freedom of Information Award at a banquet Wednesday night.
Lewis, a civil rights icon, has been a "consistent and persistent advocate of government transparency and accountability," according to the foundation. Last year's recipient was Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernon Keenan.
The banquet is at 6:15 p.m., at the offices of the King & Spalding law firm, 1180 Peachtree St., Atlanta. Tickets are $300. Information: www.gfaf.org, or 404-525-3646.
