The Johns Creek City Council has authorized $303,000 of parks bond funding for three projects at the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center.

A renovation of the Farmhouse Museum was identified as the highest-priority project by the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Association, the nonprofit that maintains the property. It is estimated to cost $193,000. Of that amount, $93,000 will come from the parks bond and $100,000, from a maintenance accrual account, a Johns Creek spokesman said.

The bond issue also will be tapped for a permeable paved parking lot and bus turnaround next to the Visitors Center, $150,000; and to relocate a 100-year-old smokehouse from property near the Rogers Bridge Trail to the Autrey Mill Historical Village and create a solid foundation for the structure, $60,000.

A $40 million bond issue for recreation and parks projects was approved by Johns Creek voters in November 2016.

Autrey Mill, at 9770 Autrey Mill Road, is a 46-acre city-owned property with woodlands, a visitor’s center with live animal exhibit, heritage village with historic buildings, replica Native American dwellings, a farm museum, picnic pavilions and more than two miles of trails.
