A Fulton County Jail inmate has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting death in Atlanta in March, police said Tuesday.

Jeffrey Deroy Lewis, 20, was charged with felony murder, Officer Kim Jones of the Atlanta Police Department said Tuesday night.

The charge stems from the March 26 death of Delorean Patterson, 18. Police found him lying face down on the sidewalk in the 600 block of Mercer Street around 1:30 a.m. after they were called about a person shot. Patterson had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene, Jones said.

Lewis was already in the Fulton jail on unrelated charges.
