A truck driver from Indiana was killed Wednesday in a predawn wreck that shut down the southbound lanes of I-75 in northwest Georgia for several hours.
The 2005 Freightliner truck driven by Curtis L. Keown was southbound near Exit 320 in Gordon County about 4:35 a.m. when the truck, “for reasons unknown, left the roadway, traveled into the median and struck a guardrail,” said Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright.
“The driver then over-corrected, re-entered the southbound lanes of the interstate and overturned,” Wright told the AJC. “The driver was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected.”
Wright said Keown, 63, from Evansville, Ind., died in the single-vehicle wreck.
The truck’s load of carpet equipment spilled onto the interstate. The southbound lanes of I-75 were closed until about 8 a.m.
