Holiday sign ordinance OK’d in Woodstock

The Woodstock City Council Monday night approved an amendment to its sign ordinance allowing inflatables between Nov. 1 and. Jan. 1 in commercial zoning districts. This is intended for display of snowmen, Santa Clauses, ornaments and other holiday-themed items.

Last year, a heating and air-conditioning company was forced to move a number of inflatables calling attention to the Toys for Tots Campaign due to then-restrictions, generating a number of complaints to the city.

The change allows the devices temporarily without permit and restricts them to no higher than 20 feet above a roofline and 35 feet above ground level. They also have to be stationary and firmly held in place.

The council also approved a couple of zoning matters, green-lighting an application for a “vape” shop in the Ga. 92 corridor and approving Woodstock Quality Paint and Body’s application to allow a metal pre-fab building at 9285 Main St. with the owner agreeing to put up a screening fence.
