After being violently attacked by the family’s dogs last week, a 5-year-old Hall County girl “has her spunk back,” her aunt said.

Although Kadence Johnson had multiple plastic surgeries and is still at risk for infection, she’s smiling and playing like a kid again, Shawn Beloin told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Three dogs, described as a pit bull-mix breed by Hall County Animal Control officials, attacked Kadence when she went into the backyard of her Browns Bridge Road home to play with them April 5.

"The dogs that attacked her were family pets and have never shown signs of aggression before," Beloin said in a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Kadence's medical expenses. "Unfortunately, that changed today."

The family immediately had all the dogs euthanized, Beloin said.

On Sunday, the Princess Rapunzel character paid Kadence a visit at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite, where emergency workers flew the girl after the attack. On Monday, she was released to recover at home.

One of her first trips out, on Wednesday, was to thank the Gainesville workers who rescued her and flew her to the hospital.

She’s healing well, Beloin said, and looking more like herself every day.

The family was at first worried about an injured nerve on the right side of Kadence’s lips.

“Kadence is smiling so big now,” Beloin said. “Her spunk is back! And we're happy to have her proving she's still the boss.”
