Henry County approves $70K law enforcement grant

The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted recently to approve the acceptance of a $70,000 grant from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the Violence Against Women project with matching county funds of $23,333.
The project was described as a “collaborative effort [that] will enhance the safety of women victims of violent crimes, increase officer education and accountability, and participate in appropriate training addressing the special needs of the underserved non-English speaking women victims of violent crimes.”
The project is to include training law enforcement officers and judges to more effectively identify and respond to violent crimes against women including sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking and dating violence; expanding units of law enforcement officers specifically targeting violent crimes against women; continuing self-defense classes for the adult female population of the county; and providing a liaison to collect and communicate information between all parties.
The CJCC has awarded the HCPD a $70,000 grant for eight years of an 8-year cycle contingent upon funds being available and the department satisfying grant management requirements.
