Firefighters were working to control a fire at a Peachtree Corners apartment building that started shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, Gwinnett County fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

“Firefighters could see a heavy column of smoke from a distance as they responded to the scene,” Rutledge said.

The two-story building at 3500 Peachtree Corners Circle had flames coming through the roof of the building and residents were being evacuated, Rutledge said. Firefighter couldn’t immediately enter the structure and had to battle the flames from outside, Rutledge said.

No injuries had been reported as of 10 p.m., but all the residents of the Valencia Park Apartments had not yet been located.

“We are still trying to account for all the residents to make sure everyone is in fact out of the building,” Rutledge said.

Four to five of the building’s eight units sustained “heavy fire damage,” Rutledge said.

Rutledge said the apartment management and the Red Cross would assist with displaced residents

“We’re still trying to put this fire completely out and right now the cause of the fire is undetermined and will be investigated,” Rutledge said.
