The head wrestling coach at Collins Hill High School, one of the state's top programs, is facing DUI charges after his arrest last weekend.
Joshua Dane Stephen, 38, was booked into the Gwinnett County jail Friday night on charges of DUI and obstructing the flow of traffic. He was released Saturday afternoon on $1,564 bond, according to jail records.
The incident occurred on Mall of Georgia Boulevard. A Gwinnett County police officer reported finding Stephen's vehicle, a 2007 Chevy Colorado pickup truck, stopped in the street, with Stephen asleep inside.
Stephen refused to take a breath test and was arrested without incident, according to the police incident report.
Stephen declined comment Tuesday when reached by the AJC.
Gwinnett Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach said Stephen reported the incident to the administration at Collins Hill and that the schools' Human Resources department is conducting a review. The coach has not been fired, she said.
Stephen is in his second season as head coach at Collins Hill, one of the state's powerhouses in the sport. In February, Collins Hill won its fifth straight traditional AAAAA wrestling championship. It had a string of eight straight dual championships snapped by Camden County in January.
He was formerly head coach at Harrison High School in Cobb County.
