A Gwinnett County restaurant was closed by the Health Department after failing its second health inspection on April 8 with a score of 56.
ATL Pho, a Vietnamese restaurant located at 4805 Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn, has a four-star TripAdvisor rating and a five-star Yelp rating, but the popular lunch spot failed two of its last three health inspections.
Last October, the restaurant scored 65 on its health inspection, failing for violations such as unwashed hands and improper temperatures for holding cold foods. The manager on duty couldn't explain the employee health policy pertaining to illnesses and reporting requirements, according to the inspection report.
Violations found during its April 8 again included improper washing, such as employees washing hands without soap, and the person in charge couldn’t demonstrate knowledge of health policies.
“No one in facility was able to name any symptoms or illnesses of when to exclude or restrict employees,” according to the report. “Person in charge must be able to name all five symptoms and all 6 symptoms.”
Foods were not held at proper temperatures.
An egg roll in the fryer tested 116 degrees when it was supposed to be at least 135 degrees and a large container of beef soup was discarded because it didn’t cool fast enough in the walk-in cooler.
The owner, Son Van, told Channel 2 Action News recent staffing changes including hiring a new cook were to blame.
He said he and his wife went to a mandatory compliance conference with the Health Department, where they presented an action plan to resolve recent issues.
