Gwinnett County has taken a major step in the rehabilitation of a home in the Avington Glen subdivision.

The county used federal and state Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds last month to purchase the house and 11 other dilapidated homes in the Sugarloaf Parkway/New Hope area. The goal is to rebuild them to livable standards and sell them.

Avington Glen subdivision was developed in 2006, but developers abandoned the project with many homes still unfinished when the real estate market declined. To date, six of 11 the homes have been rehabilitated, two have been sold and almost $2 million in NSP funds have been invested in the project.
