Police are seeking the driver of a vehicle that struck and critically injured a state championship wrestler from Peachtree Ridge High School over the weekend, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Tsvetomir Petrushev, 17, a junior at the Suwanee high school and two-time Class AAAAA state wrestling champion, was walking home from his girlfriend’s house in Norcross early Sunday morning when he was struck on Williams Road.

Police found Petrushev on the side of the road. He had sustained massive head injuries as well as a broken jaw and pelvis. The driver of the vehicle that hit him apparently did not stop.

“He was definitely run over by a car. He had tire marks all over his body,” the youth’s girlfriend, Gaby Gospodarska, told Channel 2.

The teen was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.

Stefan Petrushev told Channel 2 that his son opened his eyes briefly Monday and appeared to recognize him and his mother. The youth today remains in critical condition. He is in a drug-induced coma.

Gwinnett County police said they were investigating and could not immediately comment on the incident.
