With Gwinnett commissioners approval last month, the Gwinnett Police Department joined other local law enforcement agencies by rolling out their own Twitter account (@GwinnettPd) along with a Facebook page for the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter, which is under the supervision of the police.

Assuming the department finds the Twitter account useful, citizens can expect updates on local crime investigations, crime prevention, emergency, traffic, weather and other public safety information.

The Gwinnett County Sherriff’s office has already been on Facebook long enough to have over 11,700 followers. As of Monday morning, the department’s new Twitter account has 490 followers.
