A Gwinnett County nursing home failed its recent health inspection after officials noted several improperly stored foods in its kitchen and lax attempts at cleaning in its dining area.

PruittHealth Lanier, located at 2451 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Buford, got a 50/U on the Monday morning inspection.

According to the inspector's report, raw beef was being kept "in direct contact" with shrimp, and unwashed vegetables and fruit were being stored over various ready-to-eat foods. Cabbage and beans were kept for a week after being cooked, officials said, and several other foods were not date-marked as required.

"Non-food contact surfaces of multiple pieces of equipment have soil accumulations," the report said.

In addition, "custodial staff [was] cleaning tables by just wiping tables with a cloth" instead of using sanitizer, according to officials.

PruittHealth is based in Norcross and has more than 90 "post-acute, skilled nursing and assisted living locations" across four Southeastern states. Messages left at the Buford location and the corporate headquarters were not immediately returned Tuesday.

A follow-up inspection will be completed within 10 days of Monday's failing evaluation.
