A teacher from Snellville Middle School is facing charges after being accused of grabbing a student sometime between January and May.
Math teacher Belinda Hazlett was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on a misdemeanor battery charge and was released on $1,300 bond a few hours after her May 20 arrest for simple battery.
The student informed his or her parent of the incident, which led the parent to file an allegation with the school, Jorge Quintana, spokesman for Gwinnett County Schools, told the AJC.
Immediately, the school launched two investigations, Quintana said.
“The school’s resource officer investigated the claim and then issued a warrant for Hazlett’s arrest,” he said. “Human resources is now in the midst of an investigation of their own.”
Hazlett, who has been with the school and the school system since August 2001, has been removed from the school until the investigation is completed.
