A Duluth man has been charged with four felonies, including arson, after allegedly lighting a woman’s bedroom on fire, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services said.
John Oh Kim is charged with first degree arson, first degree burglary, aggravated assault and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
Kim entered the woman’s Lawrenceville townhome on April 13 while the woman and her roommate were not home, said Capt. Tommy Rutledge, a spokesman for Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. Kim allegedly set the fire in a ground floor bedroom and left.
The woman discovered the fire around 1:55 p.m. that day after a smoke alarm went off. When she went downstairs, she discovered flames in the bedroom, Rutledge said.
The woman identified Kim as a potential suspect, and police arrested Kim on Nov. 7. Kim admitted to the charges during an interview, Rutledge said. The motive is believed to be “domestic related.”
Kim is being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
