Gwinnett Transit is launching a pilot program Sept. 17 that will provide six months of free door-to-door bus service in Snellville.

The on-demand service will use seven 12-passenger buses operating 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. The service can be used by anyone for appointments, shopping and visits, as well as to connect with GRTA buses going downtown.

After six months, the service will pause while the transit team analyzes what worked and what needs to be improved before renewing the service in Snellville and eventually adding the service to Dacula and Buford. Ultimately, the program will roll out over the next 20 years to include seven areas of the county without transit service.

Riders can request service by using an app that will show the bus’s location and estimated arrival time.

To schedule a pickup time, patrons can download the free Microtransit app (available for iOS and Android devices). The app allows patrons to enter pickup and drop-off locations, a pickup time, passenger count and whether a wheelchair or other mobility device is being used. Information: microtransitapp.com .

You can also reserve your trip by calling Gwinnett County Transit Customer Service at 770- 822-5010 and selecting the Microtransit option.
