Longtime Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway and State Court Judge Carla Brown, who are married, both dominated their respective primaries Tuesday.

Conway, who has served as sheriff since 1996, took a healthy margin against former deputy Keith Van Nus and faces no Democratic opposition in November's election. Brown, who has served as a state court judge since 2003, also pummeled her competitor, attorney Ronda Colvin-Leary. That race was non-partisan and decided with Tuesday's primary.

The primary capped off what has been an interesting few months for the usually reserved Conway, who in September created national headlines by publicly releasing a statement that said "all lives matter."

On Wednesday morning, Conway's re-election Facebook page thanked his supporters.

"The best part about this campaign was seeing how many people appreciate our great sheriff," the post said. "Many of you volunteered your time and resources to ensure that Butch Conway remained our sheriff and we appreciate each one of you."

Outside of politics, Conway and Brown are also well-known in Gwinnett County's animal community. Conway announced earlier this year plans to expand his popular "jail dogs" program, and Brown is the founder of Canine Pet Rescue, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing German shepherds.
