The Gwinnett Department of Water Resources will host a free workshop on detention ponds from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville.

Detention ponds help prevent floods by capturing excess runoff from roofs, roads and other impervious surfaces. Residents who live in unincorporated Gwinnett or the City of Lilburn can qualify for a 5 percent credit on their storm water utility fees by attending the workshop.

To register, send your name, address and phone number to dwrswreg@gwinnettcounty.com or call 678-376-7193, Ext. 5.
