The Gwinnett County courthouse was evacuated early Monday morning because of smoke, emergency officials said.
Gwinnett Sheriff's deputies saw smoke coming from the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville early Monday morning.
Deputies called 9-1-1, and firefighters arrived about 6:30 a.m. to find light smoke coming from the roof on the north side of the building, Gwinnett County fire spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.
At the time of the incident, county staffers and people reporting for court were entering the building. They were immediately redirected away from the building, Rutledge said.
Firefighters and county maintenance workers searched each floor of the building to make sure it was clear, and eventually found the source of the smoke in the basement.
The boiler unit was being fed by too rich a mixture of oil, causing the smoke, Rutledge said.
The problem was isolated just before 7:30 a.m., and staff was able to return to the building around 8 a.m., authorities said.
No one was hurt and there was no damage to the building, Rutledge said.
