Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway said he will investigate suspicions a Suwanee staffing company sent illegal immigrants to work at Chateau Elan near Braselton, according to CBS Atlanta.

The TV station's website says Conway was responding to a CBS Atlanta story based on documents. It was not known if Chateau Elan knew the workers H.S. Solutions Inc. sent were not supposed to be in this country.

But Conway said the resort may have violated federal law if management knew they were using illegal immigrants but did nothing about it. Conway's agency is one of five in Georgia that participates in the federal 287(g) program, which trains local law enforcement in the area of immigration law.

"It is their responsibility" to verify all prospective workers' legal  status, including those initially hired by a staffing firm, Conway told the station.
