Gwinnett County police said they have arrested two men in the killing earlier this fall of a gas station manager who was slain outside his apartment as he brought home a night deposit.

James Clark has been charged with felony murder and armed robbery, and Mark Harper, 44, with armed robbery in the slaying of Rajib Sarkar.

Sarkar, 38, was found shot multiple times about 1:15 a.m. Oct. 2 near the door of his unit in the Paces Crossings Apartments at 4300 Jimmy Carter Boulevard in unincorporated Norcross, police said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his wounds.

Sarkar had been carrying a night deposit from his gas station on Memorial Drive, according to Gwinnett police Cpl. Jake Smith. It was initially reported to police that the deposit usually amounted to $4,000 to $5,000; the exact amount Sarkar had the night he was killed was not immediately available.

An investigation led police to Clark, 21, and Harper, 44, who were arrested without incident Monday and are being held without bond in the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

“Clark and Harper are believed to have targeted Sarkar specifically based on information they gathered,” Smith said.

The investigation is continuing. Additional arrests are possible, Smith said.
