Gwinnett to appeal ruling in lawsuit with cities

Oct 20, 2011

Gwinnett County will appeal a judge’s ruling in a lawsuit that pits the county against its 15 cities.

County Commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash said the county has filed a motion to suspend the ruling pending an appeal. Enotah Judicial Circuit Court Judge David Barrett recently ruled Gwinnett cannot charge city residents for police and other services unless the cities consent.

The ruling could shift the burden of paying for some services from residents of some cities to those who live in other cities and in unincorporated Gwinnett.
