A Georgia State University student from Albany was killed in a crash on I-75.

A 20-year-old Georgia State student heading to Atlanta was killed Saturday morning when his SUV crashed on I-75 in Middle Georgia, authorities said.

Malik Jordan, 20, who was from Albany, was northbound in a Lincoln Navigator when the SUV struck a patch of ice on a bridge over Ga. 42, causing him to lose control, according to Sgt. Lawson Bittick of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to the scene, which was near mile marker 188, about 7:18 a.m., Bittick said.

Inclement weather and speed were factors in the crash, Bittick said. Witnesses indicated the Navigator had been traveling over 80 mph just before the crash, Bittick said.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the victim's family,” Bittick said.
