A 33-year-old Griffin man drowned Sunday afternoon at Panama City Beach.
Stephen Mann was swimming behind the Regency Towers on Thomas Drive when he became distressed, The News Herald in Panama City, Fla., reported.
Friends tried to get Mann to the shore, but were unsuccessful, the newspaper reported. Others on a personal watercraft also attempted to rescue Mann.
Deputies with the Bay County Sheriff's Office pulled Mann to shore. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 2 p.m.
