A suspicious device that was found in front of E. Rivers Elementary School Thursday morning was a toy hand grenade, according to Atlanta police spokewoman Kim Jones.

A school custodian had called police at about 8:30 a.m. and reported that he found the device at the entrance of the school at 8 Peachtree Battle Ave. which is at Peachtree Road and Peachtree Battle Avenue. Police, fire and bomb specialists were called to the scene and determined the device was a toy, said Jones. She said the device did indeed look like a grenade.

School is not in session, but children were turned away from playing on the soccer field.
