A 2020 Car Seat Mini-Grant has been awarded to the Roswell Fire Department to provide child car seats and education to financially eligible families, city officials announced.

The Injury Prevention Program of the Georgia Department of Public Health awarded the grant, to be used by Roswell and Safe Kids North Fulton. The program is funded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data show car seats in passenger cars reduce fatal injuries by 71 percent among infants and by 54 percent among children ages one to four years, yet nearly three out of four car seats are not used properly, the city said.

“Safe Kids North Fulton educates parents and caregivers on how to properly install and use car seats, offer car seat inspections and provide car seats and booster seats to financially eligible families,” the city said. “Through the Car Seat Mini-Grant, agencies supporting more than 120 counties are working to keep Georgia’s children safe.”
