Georgia Tech received a $12 million award from the National Science Foundation to lead a program to develop a high-performance computing system, college officials announced Wednesday.
The five-year award calls for Georgia Tech's College of Computing to oversee a project to design a system that would support scientists and engineers as they work toward scientific discovery. The goal is to create cutting-edge systems that could be used to tackle research projects in areas such as combustion, computational biology and materials science.
Other groups working on the project include the University of Tennessee, the National Institute for Computational Sciences and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
