Two Georgia Tech students were robbed at gunpoint as they left the campus library early Thursday, police said.
The students were getting into their car near the intersection of Fowler Street and Bobby Dodd Way about 2:45 a.m. Thursday when a white van pulled up beside them, according to a Georgia Tech police incident report.
Two men got out of the van, and one of the men pulled a gun and told the victims to drop their backpacks "and to not look at him," the report states.
The robbers took the backpacks and cell phones from the students before getting back into the van and driving off down Bobby Dodd Way. Both of the backpacks contained Macbook laptops valued at between $1,500 and $2,000 each.
The suspects also took a purse from one of the students that contained a debit card and $50 in cash.
The gunman was described as a male in his early 20s with "dark brown skin," 6 feet tall and weighing 150 pounds. He had short hair and was wearing a white hoodie, dark pants and white shoes and was armed with a black handgun. The second suspect was described in the police report as a male in his early to mid-20s, wearing a green jacket.
"We work continuously to improve campus safety and security of our students through enhanced technology, ongoing education and the active involvement of our police force," Georgia Tech spokesman Matt Nagel said Thursday afternoon. "Students have been alerted to the investigation and asked to take precautions."
