Ex-Georgia Southern football player killed in car wreck

A DeKalb County man who was one of the greatest receivers in Georgia Southern University football history was killed Saturday in a car wreck, according to a media report.

Raja Andrews, 31, died in a single-car accident in his hometown of Swainsboro, the Savannah Morning News reported. He was in town for his father’s funeral.

Swainsboro is about 175 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Andrews ranks second in career receiving yards at Georgia Southern, and his 873 yards in 2008 were a school single-season record.

“To me, he was a brother, best friend, those clichéd names,” said brother Brandon Andrews, also a former Georgia Southern player. “In my personal opinion, he hadn’t reached his prime, but at the end of the day, we don’t have the last say-so.”

Raja Andrews worked in the DeKalb court system, his brother said.
