The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia filed a lawsuit against the Medical College of Georgia Foundation, claiming the group continues to use the college’s name even though the institution has cuts ties with the group.

The lawsuit, announced Tuesday, orders that the foundation cease using the college’s name and stop collecting money on behalf of the Augusta-based college.

The Medical College of Georgia, the state’s only public medical school, severed ties with the foundation in the summer of 2008.
