Georgia Perimeter rescinds name change
In an effort to save money, Georgia Perimeter College won't be adding "state" to its name.
The State Board of Regents approved the name change in May to acknowledge that the historical two-year school received permission to offer limited four-year degrees. The regents rescinded that vote Wednesday at the request of Interim President Rob Watts.
The college can not afford a name change, Watts said. The college cut $25 million from its budget to cover a financial shortfall.
Watts, who was brought in after the financial problems were revealed, said consideration of a name change should be postponed until a permanent president is in place.
