Georgia death-row inmate Timothy Woodrow Pruitt died on Sunday from an "alleged suicide attempt" that is under investigation, a Department of Corrections spokeswoman said Monday.

Pruitt, 43, was sentenced to death for the 1992 rape and murder of Wendy Vincent, a 10-year-old Lumpkin County girl. He died at Augusta State Medical Prison after sustaining his injuries on Nov. 19 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, DOC spokeswoman Sharmelle Brooks said in a statement e-mailed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
