The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, assisted by local law enforcement, raided Internet cafes across North Georgia this week, searching for evidence of illegal gambling, the GBI said Friday.
On Friday, GBI agents with the West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office executed a search warrant at the Lucky Numbers Internet Sweepstakes Café in Villa Rica.
The raid followed a one-month GBI undercover investigation. Agents seized flash drives from 100 computers as well as the server connecting the machines to the Internet.
On Thursday, the Pots “O” Gold in Blairsville and Pot “O” Gold in Helen each had 30 computers seized by the GBI under search warrants.
The Appalachian Drug Task Force was involved in the undercover investigation, assisted by the Union County Sheriff’s Office in Blairsville and the Helen Police Department and White County Sheriff’s Office in Helen.
Investigations revealed the businesses, advertised as “sweepstakes,” were operating outside state law governing sweepstakes and gambling, the GBI said in a news release.
No arrests were reported, but the results of the investigations and search warrants will be provided to local district attorneys for possible prosecution, the GBI said.
