Students and teachers were evacuated from Fayette County High School for several hours on Thursday after a four-inch gas line was accidentally severed.

Fayette County Schools reported that the incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. at the construction site of the new auditorium adjacent to the main building. There was no gas leak inside the building and no injuries were reported. As a precaution, students and staff were relocated to the nearby LaFayette Educational Center and the Center of Innovation, and were provided with boxed lunches and bottled water. The gas line was repaired by 3 p.m. and students were dismissed at their regular time.

Tiger Trail is open to traffic and normal school hours have resumed.
