A gas leak forced road closures and business evacuations Wednesday afternoon at a busy Gwinnett County intersection. But it was capped just in time for the afternoon rush hour.
The intersection of Scenic Highway and Henry Clower Boulevard in Snellville was closed, near U.S. Highway 78, for more than two hours while a crew from Atlanta Gas Light worked to fix the leak, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge with the Gwinnett County fire department.
Snellville police re-routed traffic in the area and assisted with evacuating about 100 people at the New London Plaza shopping center and other adjacent businesses, Rutledge said.
The leak was stopped shortly before 4 p.m.
