Eric Kendrick didn’t like the way Exazavia King spoke to his cousin — who was also King’s girlfriend— on social media.
So, Kendrick decided to take matters into his own hands: He confronted and shot at King outside a Southwest Atlanta home in October 2018.
On Monday, a Fulton County Superior Court judge sentenced Kendrick to 65 years in prison, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office announced in a news release. Kendrick, 26, of Atlanta was convicted of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and weapons charges. A known gang member, Kendrick was out on bond in a separate case at the time of the shooting.
“We’re going to send a message to the criminal street gangs that are dedicated to raping, robbing, and murdering that we are not going to tolerate it in society,” said Fulton Superior Judge Craig L. Schwall Sr., who presided over the case.

Kendrick is not eligible for parole and must serve his entire sentence.
Prior to the Oct. 7, 2018 shooting, King and his girlfriend had a public disagreement on social media, Fulton County DA spokesman Chris Hopper said in the release. Later that day King received a text from an acquaintance asking him to step outside his Moury Avenue home.
Hopper said once King exited the home, Kendrick confronted him and demanded he empty his pockets. He then said to King: “You think you gonna keep disrespecting my cousin like that?”
Kendrick then fired a shot, which struck King in the left forearm and lower back, according to the release. Kendrick yelled out his gang name as he fled the shooting scene.
King survived the shooting. Kendrick was arrested in February.
Kendrick’s criminal history dates back to 2010 and includes 11 arrests and four felony convictions for theft, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, participation in gang activity and cocaine possession. He was arrested in 2014 in connection with a gang-related murder but was later acquitted, according to the Fulton DA’s office.
