Jonathan Jones, the executive director of the Housing Authority of Fulton County, has been suspended.

In a written statement dated Oct. 15 but released to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday, Jones has been suspended “with pay as the result of allegations of violations of the Authority's policies and procedures.”

The authority's general counsel and author of the statement, Andrew Patterson, would not disclose what Jones’ infraction was, and Jones could not be reached for comment. In the housing authority’s statement, Patterson wrote that the investigation should be completed by Oct. 30.

For Jones, who has worked for the housing authority for more than a decade, this isn't the first blemish on his record.

In March, Jones was publicly reprimanded by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners at a meeting. The conflict involved Jones’ and housing authority officials’ refusal to appear before the board after repeated invitations.

Specifically, Commissioner Robb Pitts had been seeking Jones’ appearance for two consecutive meetings to explain a bond issue for a senior apartment complex and the authority’s work during the past several years. Pitts had threatened to subpoena Jones or have police drag him into a board meeting.

“I do apologize, "Jones said when he finally addressed the board. “I have heard the commission clearly. Our intent would be full cooperation, collaboration and coordination."

Jones was appointed deputy executive director of the housing authority in 1998. He took over in 2004 when former director Bettye Davis took a similar position in DeKalb County.
